Yesterday morning I was researching macbooks when my cell rings. My mother wants to know if Billy Ray Cyrus is coming to Fairmont, West Virginia to play at Palatine Park before the fireworks go off later that night. I laugh and tell her surely not. Why on God’s Green Earth would Billy Ray Cyrus come here? Not to mention someone else semi-famous was supposed to have done the job, which means they got him last minute.
Impossible!
But, then I googled it and low and behold, he is! He once had a big career and that alone should have kept him away from my neck of the woods but I could have sworn he’d moved out of washed-up stardom and started riding his daughter’s coat-tails into a resurrected career!
Obviously not.
As if it weren’t bad enough for his image that he was scored LAST minute by a little nothing town like Fairmont (seriously, Morgantown couldn’t get him?) he okayed playing in Palatine Park, which is just a fancy name for that spot under the bridge. Not even a really great bridge as far as bridges go. Ironically enough the rumor going around was Billy Ray Cyrus would be bringing a special guest and that special guest would be his superstar daughter, Miley Cyrus.
Sorry folks, Miley doesn’t have to play under bridges last minute. She has real plans!
Somehow I just imagine Miley hiding in her room somewhere from sheer embarrassment. Here she’s worked so hard to breathe life back into her daddy’s broken down career and he goes off and does something like this! Not only was it a concert under a bridge in a town you’ve never heard of but it was a FREE concert!
I’ve heard rumor he was paid twenty-five thousand to play it, but that’s just a rumor and if it is true it somehow makes it more pathetic. It’s one thing to take pity upon the hicks crawling out of the woodwork in West Virginia to drive down to the “city” of Fairmont but to do it for such a small chunk of change just seems incredibly sad.
Did not his own hometown invite him back for their fireworks? Surely this man must have had other plans! How is it even possible that no one anywhere requested him to do a fourth of July show that was bigger and better than playing in Palatine Park?
